Tandem skydiving in Karimunjawa is the simplest way for a first-time jumper to see the archipelago from the air — no course, no licence, no second-guessing. You are harnessed to a licensed tandem instructor. At the 2025 KISA Boogie Woogie Jump the exit was from up to 12,000 ft above Dewadaru Airport on Pulau Kemujan, with the reefs and islands of Karimunjawa National Park spread out below and the Java Sea in every direction. Public tandem jumps were part of that first edition, and Karimunjawa Skydive holds the waiting list for the next one.

This guide covers what to know before a Karimunjawa tandem — how the jump day runs, the requirements published so far, how to reach the island from Jepara or Semarang, what to wear, and how the desk at Juara Holding Group can arrange the rest of your trip around the jump. Dates and pricing for the next edition are confirmed at launch.

What Is a Tandem Skydive?

A tandem skydive pairs you with a licensed tandem instructor. You share one harness system, one main parachute and one reserve, and leave the aircraft together. The instructor manages the jump from start to finish — body position, deployment, canopy steering and landing — while you take in the view.

Tandem is the route for first-time jumpers at Karimunjawa. Solo skydiving needs a licence and a multi-day course; at the 2025 edition the licensed jumpers were the ~50 participants from Indonesia and abroad, and tandem was the public's way in. If you want one clear jump day on a small island in the Java Sea, tandem is exactly what you want.

Weight, Age & Fitness Requirements

Weight, Age & Fitness Requirements

Tandem has firmer physical limits than most adventure sports because the harness is rated for two people. These are the parameters published for Karimunjawa so far; the event organiser confirms the final rules at launch:

Guest weight
45–95 kg (site-stated; final limit at launch)
Minimum age
Adults; final rule confirmed by the organiser at launch
Minimum height
Confirmed by the organiser at launch
Pregnancy
Generally not accepted for tandem; confirm with the desk
Recent surgery
Doctor's clearance generally required; confirm with the desk
Scuba before jump
Leave a gap after your last dive; the organiser sets the interval

If someone in your group falls outside the weight range, the desk can shape a different island day around the jump — snorkelling and island hopping inside Karimunjawa National Park, quoted case by case — so nobody sits out the trip.

Karimunjawa Drop Zone: Dewadaru Airport, Kemujan

The 2025 KISA edition ran from Bandara Dewadaru (KWB) on Pulau Kemujan, a small airfield inside the national park. The organiser runs the drop zone; the desk holds waiting-list places for the next edition.

Bandara Dewadaru, Pulau Kemujan

The drop zone. The climb takes you out over Kemujan, the reef flats and the scattered islands of the archipelago, with the Java Sea on every side. The 2025 jumps exited from up to 12,000 ft and landed back at the drop zone. Over five days, 7–11 May 2025, the field hosted around 50 licensed skydivers and the public tandem programme.

The airfield sits on Kemujan, away from the main island's harbour and guesthouses. Allow a clear morning for the transfer across; the desk can arrange island stays around the jump day, quoted case by case.

Karimunjawa National Park (the view)

Karimunjawa National Park (the view)

The backdrop. Karimunjawa has been a national park since 1999 and a marine reserve since 2001 — about 110,117 hectares of islands, reefs and open sea. From altitude the reef flats show as pale rings around each island and the deep water reads dark blue. Few drop zones anywhere open a door over a protected marine park.

Sea conditions are generally best in the dry season, roughly April to October — the same window the 2025 edition used. It is a general climate pattern, not an event rule; the organiser sets the dates.

How to Get to Karimunjawa

Karimunjawa is an island in the Java Sea, and the crossing sets the pace of your trip. Ferry and flight schedules vary by season, so plan the crossing before the jump and keep a buffer day. Three ways in, fastest first:

  • Fly: Susi Air Semarang–Karimunjawa (fastest) — About 40 minutes from Semarang (SRG) to Dewadaru (KWB), the same airfield as the drop zone. Scheduled flights resumed in July 2025; schedules vary. The desk can arrange the routing, quoted case by case.
  • Fast ferry: Express Bahari from Jepara — About 2 to 2.25 hours across from Jepara harbour, after the drive from Semarang. The most common route for visitors. The desk arranges it as part of a transfer, quoted case by case.
  • Slow ferry: KMP Siginjai from Jepara — About 4.5 to 6 hours. The economical option, with the longest exposure to sea conditions. Fine for a relaxed schedule; less suited to a tight jump-day timeline.

What to Wear for Skydiving

What to Wear & Bring

  • Closed-toe shoes — Trainers or sneakers. No sandals, flip-flops or heels — even on an island.
  • Athletic clothing — Leggings or shorts, a fitted t-shirt. A jumpsuit goes on top on the day.
  • Empty pockets — Leave phones, keys and jewellery with a companion. Loose objects in the slipstream become projectiles.
  • Hair tied back — Long hair in a tight braid or bun. Loose hair in freefall wind is genuinely painful.
  • Glasses or contacts — Both are usually fine. Goggles are issued on the day and typically fit over prescription frames.
  • Light breakfast — Eat something small before the jump. Not an empty stomach, not a full one — and go easy on the ferry crossing the day before.
